I had this blog ready to post on Monday but there was an error on my website for the past couple of days I had to get cleared up by IT. So if you've been trying to message me via my website and have been getting an error message - it should be cleared up now!
In any event, happy belated "Make it Monday"!!!
If you ever need a reason to go to Whole Foods, finding out what new produce is in season is a great reason!
They usually will have some interesting and/or hard-to-find seasonal produce at the start of every season, and right now, figs are it!
I haven't seen these anywhere else - have you?
If so, comment below so others can find them there too!
As with any new fruit that comes into season, I always want to make a dessert or a mocktail/cocktail for some reason! (Please tell me you're the same 🤣)
So here's my recipe for Pumpkin Spiced Fig + Plum Crisp for everyone who's excited for fall and wants to embrace this new seasonal fruit!

Laura
Flare Free Pumpkin Spiced Fig + Plum Crisp
(c=cup; t=teaspoon; T=tablespoon)
Serves 6
INGREDIENTS:
1 pt. ripe figs, stems removed and quartered
3 lg. ripe plums, cored and diced
1/2 lg. container of organic blueberries (9 oz.) - this is a GREAT use of any berries that are over-ripe and dying 🤣
1/2 lg. lemon, juiced
~3-4 T dark maple syrup
~1 c ground flax seeds
~1 c almond flour
~1/2 c brown stevia (or brown monk fruit if you find stevia to be bitter)
Big pinch of pink or Celtic sea salt
Pumpkin Spice to taste (I used about 1 T)
Spray avocado oil
INSTRUCTIONS:
Preheat the oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit/232 Celsius. Place fruit and lemon juice in a medium mixing bowl and drizzle with maple syrup to taste. Mix to combine then taste fruit and add more maple syrup to your liking if needed. (There should be about 2-3 tablespoons of maple syrup pooling in the bottom of the bowl.)
Place oats and next 5 ingredients in a separate bowl and mix to combine. Taste and adjust by adding more brown stevia, Pumpkin Spice blend, or salt if needed.
Spray a baking medium baking dish with avocado oil then pour in the fruit. Top with the crisp topping and spray topping with avocado oil.
Bake for about 30-45 minutes on the middle rack of the oven until fruit is bubbly and topping is golden brown.
NOTES: Not all Pumpkin Spice blends are the same. Many contain cardamom which is an acquired taste. I prefer cardamom in my savory dishes and love this blend which is just cinnamon, clove, nutmeg and ginger. You can always make your own blend if you have all of those spices on hand as well!!
Feel free to use any fruit you like! Apples or pears would be great too!
I love to serve this with a dollop of unsweetened soy-free vegan yogurt (or plain unsweetened grass-fed yogurt if you can tolerate dairy) and a sprinkle of shelled hemp seeds on top if I have it on hand!
